This is one of the 108 Divya Desam and 23rd Divya Desam in Chozha naadu. Here Moolavar Devathi Rajan is flanked by Garuda, Prahalad, Cauvery and Markandeya. This is the one of the Kshetra of Pancha Krishnaranya Kshetram the other kshetras are Thirukannangudi, Thirukannamangai, Thirukkannapuram and Thirukkabisthalam.Thirumangai Azhwar praises the lord his Peria Thirumozhi and Thiru Neduthaandagam. In forth five verses he praise the Lord Aamaruviappan.
Festival : There are many functions held at the temple. The main function is at the temple is Silver Garuda Seva celebrated every year at Vaikasi month.
Specialities in the Temple :The lord is seen with a beautiful posture with Cow and Calf here.Normally Garuda stands opposite the Lord but here he is standing to the left of the Lord.This is birth place of Tamil poet Kamban.Kamban with his wife is seen inside the temple, in a separate Sannidhi.The place is well know for Therazhandur Sisters.

Travel Information : One can reach the temple via Kumbakonam to Komal Bus (Route # 33). Every one hour there is a bus to Kumbakonam to Komal. Other wise one can get down at Komal Road from Kumbakonam or Mayiladuthurai and get some auto. By train get down at Kutthalam and reach the temple via auto.
